Top up a phone

Airtime

Are you sending airtime to family across countries? Top up any phone — all it needs is the number.

Kpali airtime screen with the phone number, amount and what leaves your wallet — Airtime · Kpali app

The app is the till — this page never takes payment. Store credit alone is sold on this site, by bank transfer on one page.

What it is

Airtime on Kpali is a top-up sent to a phone number. The number is the whole of the recipient — there is no account to open on the other side, nothing for the person receiving it to install, and no step where they have to confirm anything.

You pick the country first, because the country decides which networks appear and what the catalogue can actually sell. Then you pick the network, type the number, choose an amount, and pay out of store credit.

It is the least ceremonious thing Kpali does, and for a lot of people it is the first thing they ever do with the app.

Who it is for

People with family on a different continent, who want a phone to keep working without wiring money to a person who then has to go and buy the credit.

People who left a number behind — a line that still receives bank alerts, or one that a relative answers — and who need it to stay active.

Small traders who top up staff or drivers in a market they no longer live in.

Why this is hard from another country

Airtime looks trivial until you try to buy it for a number in another country. Card checkouts on operator sites refuse foreign cards routinely, resellers quote a rate and then quietly apply a worse one, and the informal route — sending money to a relative who buys the credit — turns a two minute job into a favour somebody has to remember to do.

The failure is never the airtime. It is the payment leg: a card issued in one country trying to buy from an operator in another, through a checkout built for domestic traffic. Kpali removes that leg entirely by settling from store credit that was funded with stablecoin, which has no domestic checkout to fail.

How to access it in the app

Home → country → Airtime → network → number → amount → Pay.

The recipient for this product is a mobile number. There is no lookup step here, so read the recipient back on the review sheet before you pay — that screen is the last check.

Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States are the corridors people ask for most, but the country picker carries the full catalogue.

How to buy it

The money path is the same shape for every product, but the detail below is this one's.

  1. Install Kpali and create an account. No bank account and no BVN are required to begin.
  2. Fund store credit with stablecoin. Choose USDT or USDC and the network. The warning about the network sits above the address because the wrong chain cannot be undone. The minimum is stated before the address appears. Put your own email in to be notified, or somebody else's to credit them instead.
  3. Wait for Home to show the credit. An address is not money; store credit is.
  4. Open Airtime. Home → country → Airtime → network → number → amount → Pay.
  5. Check the recipient. A mobile number — read it back before paying.
  6. Read the review sheet. It states what leaves your wallet, including the fee, before anything is charged.
  7. Pay. If store credit cannot cover the amount plus the fee, Pay does not proceed and no provider is called.
  8. Keep the receipt. The credit lands on the number. The receipt names the number, the network, the amount and the state.

Funding from a Nigerian bank account exists in one place: kpali.app/store-credit/, where a bank transfer buys store credit that is spent in the app.

What decides availability

What appears in the network list is what the catalogue can genuinely deliver into that country today. Networks come and go from that list as upstream coverage changes. A missing or greyed network is coverage stated honestly before you pay, not a failure discovered after.

Coverage is stated before you pay rather than discovered afterwards. A greyed tile with a reason is the server being honest; a missing tile with no explanation would not be.

What you pay

The amount you choose is denominated in the destination's currency; store credit is USD. The review sheet states the amount, the fee, and what actually leaves your wallet, in one place, before anything is charged. Nothing is added afterwards.

Kpali publishes no rate it cannot stand behind and adds nothing after the fact. If store credit cannot cover the amount plus the fee, Pay does not proceed and no provider is called — so a purchase you cannot afford fails before it costs you anything.

What the receipt carries

The receipt names the number that was topped up, the network it was sent on, the amount, the fee, the timestamps and the reference. That reference is what support asks for first.

A definite refusal reverses the debit and says nothing has been charged. An unknown outcome stays on the receipt — do not retry it, because retrying an unknown is how one purchase becomes two charges. For airtime, an order still being checked means the provider has not confirmed the the credit lands on the number yet — waiting costs nothing, paying again can cost twice.

How to check it worked

Receipt + History show the number, network, amount and status.

Home is the balance, History is the list, and the receipt is the record. Those three never disagree with each other.

Mistakes people make

  • Typing the number with the wrong country code, or with a leading zero that the international form does not want.
  • Choosing a network the number does not actually belong to — ported numbers catch people out constantly.
  • Assuming a grey tile is a bug. If the catalogue cannot sell airtime for that country today, the app says so in a sentence rather than hiding the category.
  • Retrying a top-up whose receipt still says it is being checked. A second attempt can become a second charge.
  • Expecting to buy airtime on the website. Airtime is bought in the app; the site sells only store credit, by bank transfer.

Questions

Does the person receiving airtime need Kpali?

No. They need a working phone number. Nothing is installed on their side and they are not asked to confirm anything.

Can I send airtime to a country I am not in?

That is the normal case. You set the country on the picker, not on your own location. Someone in London tops up a Lagos line, or a Nairobi line, the same way.

Why is my network missing?

The list is what the catalogue can genuinely sell into that country today. A missing or greyed network is the server being honest about coverage rather than failing after you have paid.

What if I typed the wrong number?

Airtime lands where it is sent. Read the number back on the review sheet before you pay — that screen exists for this exact reason.

How fast does it arrive?

Usually quickly, but Kpali does not promise instant. The receipt tells you the real state, and History keeps it.

Can I pay for airtime with a card on this website?

No — never a card, on any Kpali page. The website sells store credit by naira bank transfer on kpali.app/store-credit/; airtime is bought in the app against that credit.

Can I top up a landline?

No. Airtime goes to a mobile number on a network in the list.

Does the recipient know it came from me?

The operator credits the line; it does not carry a message. If you want them to know, tell them.

The same money, spent differently

Store credit is one balance. Once funded, this is simply one of the things it buys, and nothing about the funding changes when you switch product.

  • Mobile data — Data bundles, delivered straight to a phone number. The bundle lands on the number. History keeps the plan name, its validity and the delivery state.
  • Travel eSIM — Data for where you are going, ready before you land. A QR code and an activation code on the receipt, and the pack itself under My eSIMs.
  • Electricity — Prepaid tokens and postpaid bills, against your meter number. A prepaid token on the receipt, or a settled postpaid account with the receipt as proof.

Moving between them needs no second deposit. The review sheet changes because the recipient changes, but the balance, the fee statement and the receipt behave identically.

What you will see

These are the actual screens, captured from the app rather than drawn for this website. This page shows kpali airtime screen with the phone number, amount and what leaves your wallet; and choosing a mobile network for an airtime top-up on Kpali in dark mode. Both themes appear, because the app follows the phone it is running on.

Where this sits

Airtime is one of 11 bill and top-up families on Kpali, with Quick OTP counted separately, across 182 countries and 7 regions. There is no purchase on this website — these pages teach the app, and the app is where store credit is spent. Business API keys are coming soon and are not sold here.

If airtime is not what you came for, the country you care about probably carries several of the other families, and the country page lists exactly which ones and says why for any that it cannot. Coverage is a fact about a country and a product together, never a vague promise about the world.
