Light bills & tokens
Electricity
Are you paying a light bill or buying a prepaid token from abroad? Prepaid tokens and postpaid bills, against your meter number.

How to access
Home → country → Electricity → provider → meter/account → lookup → Pay.
Recipient Meter or account number (name looked up first)
How to check Receipt carries the token or the settled bill; History keeps expiry/state.
The app is the till — this page never takes payment. Store credit alone is sold on this site, by bank transfer on one page.
What it is
Electricity on Kpali covers both halves of how power is actually paid for: prepaid meters that need a token, and postpaid accounts that need settling.
You choose the provider, enter the meter or account number, and the app looks the name up before anything is paid. The name on the screen is the name that gets paid — that lookup is the whole safeguard.
For prepaid, the token prints on the receipt. For postpaid, the receipt is the settlement record.
Who it is for
People keeping the lights on in a house they no longer live in.
Landlords and family members who settle a meter for someone who cannot.
Anyone who has tried to send money home for electricity and watched it become something else by the time it arrived.
Tenants and caretakers who hold the meter number but not a payment method that reaches the utility.
Why this is hard from another country
Paying for power in a country you are not standing in is the case that breaks most payment tools. Utility portals want a domestic card and a domestic phone number. Bank transfers arrive as money rather than as a paid bill, which means somebody at the other end still has to go and pay it.
The specific risk is worse than inconvenience: a mistyped meter number does not bounce. It credits a real meter belonging to somebody else, and there is no mechanism to pull that back. This is why the lookup exists and why it is not optional.
There is also a timing problem nobody mentions until it bites. Prepaid meters run out at whatever hour they run out, frequently in the evening, and a household without a token is a household without light until somebody with a working payment method is awake. Being able to buy one from another time zone is not a convenience feature.
How to access it in the app
Home → country → Electricity → provider → meter/account → lookup → Pay.
The recipient for this product is meter or account number (name looked up first). The meter or account number is looked up and the registered name is shown before you can pay. If the name is not the one you expect, stop — the number is wrong, and paying it would credit a stranger's meter.
Nigeria's prepaid meters are the best-known case, but electricity runs across the wider catalogue including South Africa.
How to buy it
The money path is the same shape for every product, but the detail below is this one's.
- Install Kpali and create an account. No bank account and no BVN are required to begin.
- Fund store credit with stablecoin. Choose USDT or USDC and the network. The warning about the network sits above the address because the wrong chain cannot be undone. The minimum is stated before the address appears. Put your own email in to be notified, or somebody else's to credit them instead.
- Wait for Home to show the credit. An address is not money; store credit is.
- Open Electricity. Home → country → Electricity → provider → meter/account → lookup → Pay.
- Confirm the name that comes back. The meter or account number is looked up and the registered name is shown before you can pay. If the name is not the one you expect, stop — the number is wrong, and paying it would credit a stranger's meter.
- Read the review sheet. It states what leaves your wallet, including the fee, before anything is charged.
- Pay. If store credit cannot cover the amount plus the fee, Pay does not proceed and no provider is called.
- Keep the receipt. A prepaid token on the receipt, or a settled postpaid account with the receipt as proof.
If you would rather not hold stablecoin, the store-credit page on this website takes a naira bank transfer. What it buys cannot be withdrawn.
What decides availability
Providers listed are those that can be delivered to today, per country. Prepaid and postpaid are different products at the same provider and are listed as such.
Nothing here fails after payment for a reason that was knowable before it. Unavailability is shown with an explanation attached.
What you pay
For prepaid you choose the amount and receive a token worth it. For postpaid the account's own balance governs. Either way the review sheet states the amount, the fee and the total before you pay.
Figures are not decorated and nothing is added afterwards. An unaffordable order is refused locally, before a provider is contacted at all.
What the receipt carries
For prepaid, the token itself is on the receipt — that string is the product. For postpaid, the receipt is the settlement record with the account name that was paid.
Refusals reverse themselves and announce it. Unknowns do not, and they are not an invitation to try again — they are an instruction to wait. For electricity, an order still being checked means the provider has not confirmed the a prepaid token on the receipt, or a settled postpaid account with the receipt as proof yet — waiting costs nothing, paying again can cost twice.
How to check it worked
Receipt carries the token or the settled bill; History keeps expiry/state.
The balance tells you what you hold, History what happened, and the receipt exactly what it was.
Mistakes people make
- Paying past a name that does not match. The lookup exists to stop exactly this, and ignoring it credits somebody else's meter permanently.
- Confusing a prepaid meter number with a postpaid account number — they are different objects at the same provider.
- Typing the meter from memory. Read it off the meter or off a previous token receipt.
- Losing the token by keeping only a screenshot and deleting the receipt.
- Retrying an order whose receipt still says it is being checked.
Questions
How do I know the meter number is right?
The name comes back before you pay. If it is not the name you expect, the number is wrong. That check is the point of the screen.
Where is my prepaid token?
On the receipt, and the receipt stays in History. It is not sent by SMS and it does not vanish when you close the app.
Can I pay a postpaid bill partially?
That depends on the provider's rules, which the app follows rather than overrides.
Does it work if I am not in the country?
That is the ordinary case. You set the country on the picker; where you are standing is irrelevant.
Why is my provider not listed?
The list is what can genuinely be delivered today. A missing provider is honest coverage, stated rather than hidden.
Do I need a local bank account?
No. Store credit is funded with stablecoin, which is why no bank account and no BVN are involved.
Can I buy a token for a meter I do not own?
Yes, provided the name that comes back is the one you intend to pay. That is what the lookup is for.
What if I lose the token?
It stays on the receipt in History. It is not sent only by SMS and it does not expire out of the app.
The same money, spent differently
The balance does not care what you spend it on. Every family draws from the same store credit.
- TV — Keep the decoder subscription running at home. A renewed subscription, with the bouquet and the period named on the receipt.
- Internet — Pay the home internet provider on time, every time. A paid cycle, with the account and period on the receipt.
- Water — Settle the water utility bill on your account. A settled utility account, with the name confirmed on the receipt.
You do not fund again to switch. The fee statement and the receipt are the same instruments across every family.
What you will see
These come straight out of the app. Nothing has been redrawn to look tidier than it is. This page shows choosing an electricity provider on Kpali before paying; and entering a meter number and the amount on the Kpali electricity screen.
Where this sits
Electricity is one of 11 bill and top-up families on Kpali, with Quick OTP counted separately, across 182 countries and 7 regions. There is no purchase on this website — these pages teach the app, and the app is where store credit is spent. Business API keys are coming soon and are not sold here.
If electricity is not what you came for, the country you care about probably carries several of the other families, and the country page lists exactly which ones and says why for any that it cannot. Coverage is a fact about a country and a product together, never a vague promise about the world.
