Track eSIM usage

My eSIMs exists because one traveller often holds several packs at once, and a single blended number would tell them nothing useful.

Step by step

1. Open My eSIMs. Active and Expired are separate tabs.
2. Read each pack on its own row. The country, the plan, the data used against that pack, and its validity.
3. Watch the usage bar. A pack at eighty-seven percent is a pack about to run out. Top up before it does rather than after.
4. Install anything still marked ready to install. A pack that is bought but not installed shows as ready, and is not consuming anything.
5. Check the Expired tab for old trips. Packs stay listed after expiry, so a past trip is still explicable.

What to expect

Where validity cannot be confirmed the app says validity unknown rather than inventing a date. A plan stays listed as active until the eSIM itself reports its state — nothing is ever silently deleted.

What goes wrong

• Reading one pack's usage as the total across all of them.
• Assuming an uninstalled pack is burning validity. It is not.
• Topping up after it runs out rather than before.

Why this matters

My eSIMs is a workspace rather than a list, and the difference matters the moment you hold more than one pack.

A traveller moving through three countries in a fortnight ends up with three packs at different stages: one nearly exhausted, one mid-trip, one bought but not yet installed. A single blended usage figure across those three would be worse than no figure at all, because it would hide exactly the one that is about to run out.

So each pack is tracked on its own row, with its own data used and its own validity, and packs that have not been installed are marked as ready rather than counted as running. Where the eSIM has not reported its state, the app says validity unknown instead of inventing a date — and the pack stays listed as active until it says otherwise, because silently deleting somebody's plan would be the worst possible response to missing information.

Check My eSIMs before a flight rather than after landing. A pack showing eighty-seven percent used is a pack that will strand you in a taxi queue, and the two minutes it takes to top it up on home Wi-Fi are considerably cheaper than the alternative.

There is one habit worth building around this screen. Before any flight, open My eSIMs and look at the packs you already hold rather than assuming you need a new one. Half the time there is validity left on something bought for an earlier trip, and the two minutes it takes to check is the difference between arriving connected and arriving at an airport kiosk.

A note on what the tabs mean. Active covers packs that are installed and running as well as packs bought and waiting; Expired covers everything whose validity has ended. Nothing moves between them on a schedule you cannot see — a pack is where it is because of what it has actually done.

Questions

Why does each pack have its own usage?

Because a blended total across several packs would tell you nothing about which one is running out.

What does validity unknown mean?

That the eSIM has not reported its state yet. The app says so rather than inventing a date.

Do expired packs disappear?

No. They move to the Expired tab and stay there.

Can I top up a pack instead of buying a new one?

Some plans allow it and say so before purchase; others do not.
